We are told not to judge a book by its cover, but we all do that, it is unfortunate, but it happens, the cover is the only information we get at first. So, let’s suppose you manage to pass this first impression and you actually buy the book, now comes the hardest part, getting through the first pages. If the beginning is boring the readers won’t continue reading. That is why the first line is even more important, it´s the first real impression that you have about the story of the book and it can make you feel curious about what is written on the next pages, or it can force you to give up on the book.

One of the opening lines I really liked was from the book Salem´s Lot, written by Stephen King: “Almost everyone thought the man and the boy were father and son”. This opening line is very good because it tells us a lot of things in just one sentence. We know that there is a older guy and a younger one, they probably look alike since they seem related although they aren’t. It makes us curious to know who these people are, it keeps our attention, so we do continue to read.

            After finishing a book we don’t normally remember the opening line, only if it was very good, like, the most amazing thing you have ever read in your life, but they are important when we start the book, to make us continue reading.                                                  

The first week I stayed here in Belo Horizonte, I used this time to go to the gym and to meet my friends. One of them was going to an exchange program to New Zealand so I spent some time with her since I am going to see her again only next year. One day I went to a friend´s house and we cooked fondue.

During the second week I went to Porto Seguro in Bahia with my family. My aunts have houses there, so we stayed with them. We went to the beach, ate in very good restaurants and even went to Arraial da Ajuda, a city very close to Porto. It rained a lot there, which was kind of bad, but I was able to spend a lot of time with my great-grandmother who I hadn´t seen for a long time.

When I came back from my trip, I used the rest of the time I had to get some rest. I was very tired from the first semester in school, so I slept a lot, watched a lot of movies and series and went to the gym. My mom saw my free time as an opportunity to take me to all the doctors I had to go since during classes I never have time.

I said to myself that I would study during vacations, especially the subjects I have more difficulty wit, but honestly, I didn’t even try. I really needed to rest.

 I can´t believe that classes started already, and I will have to go back to waking up at six in the morning, spend nights without sleep because I have to study and have to put up with a lot of boring classes. But it is ok because in four months I have vacations again!
